Project Description
LISTED BUILDING
Crathorne Hall, Yarm
This Grade II Listed building suffered extensive fire damage after a fire started within the roof space of the east wing.
This Grade II Listed building suffered extensive fire damage after a fire started within the roof space of the east wing. Buildzone started on this job from the outset and quickly got to work with stripping out the fire damaged areas.
This required taking back the whole wing to a shell and replacing its entire roof. Once completed, we then started with the reinstatement. As the building was Grade II listed we had to take great care during construction, especially in certain areas/rooms which had significant historic interest, involving anything from the coving, to the leadwork on the roof.
Where physically possible, certain areas had to be replaced on a like for like basis and this was not just the aesthetics of these areas, but also the method of construction. The remainder of the hotel was kept open whilst the extensive refurbishment works were carried out, and so health and safety of the staff and guests was our main priority.
Works were completed in phases in order to release more bedrooms back to the hotel, thereby increasing guest capacity at the earliest opportunity.
This was a large scale project, with scheduled works taking 48 weeks!Buildzone made sure the site was managed and strict timescales achieved.
Exactly a year to the day after the fire the hotel held its grand opening party to which local dignitaries, journalists and members of the fire service attended.
The refurbishment works at Crathorne Hall Hotel were awarded the Best Commercial Building/Scheme by LABC at the Building Excellence award 2016.
