In July 2019, this retail outlet in Ryhope, Sunderland was torched causing overwhelming damage. Four fire engines attended the scene to get the blaze under control and the damage was extensive.
Not only was stock ruined by a combination of the fire and smoke but a large part of the showroom was also completely destroyed. The retail showroom included a mezzanine floor used for storage and full length glazing to the front which completely shattered due to the heat leaving the store vulnerable.
When the blaze was extinguished, it was clear that the majority of the structure was damaged beyond repair and it was later determined that only the steel frame could remain in situ.
After initially carrying out emergency works to secure the building, BuildzoneUK were then awarded the reinstatement works to the store. We carried out extensive strip out works taking the structure back to its steel frame.
Following the strip out, new roofing and cladding was fitted to the building and a new M&E system was design and installed.
Decoration was carried out throughout the building including blasting and painting the existing steel work. New roller shutters and glazing were installed to the front and side elevations.
A new epoxy resin floor finish was laid to the entire floor area.
