Project Description

COMMERCIAL BUILDING

Walkabout Bar, Blackpool

BuildzoneUK were called in to help when this popular nightclub suffered an electrical fault, causing a fire on the first floor of a four storey building.

The blaze travelled quickly, completely demolishing the top two floors and causing severe smoke damage to the remainder of the building.

Within a week of the fire happening Buildzone had a team of 20 in the building removing all charred and damaged contents and building materials. The roof had been completely obliterated by the blaze along with the accommodation areas on the top two floors of the building and the bar area on the first floor.

As soon as the clear out was complete, the reinstatement works commenced. Throughout the building these consisted of new mechanical and electrical installation, new roof structure and coverings, installation of 3 new bars, new floor coverings, decoration works, installation of a new audio and visual system including DJ equipment and a number of additional bespoke joinery items.

Whilst the team was on site, the client requested alterations to the layout of the building. Initially there had been an internal balcony above the main bar area. BuildzoneUK were instructed to install an atrium floor infill to provide a large dance floor on the first floor of the nightclub. This involved installing bespoke steel work and beams throughout the floor area.

In addition, Walkabout Bar had requested a smoking area to be installed on the first floor of the bar. A terraced area was created on the front elevation of the building, involving the installation of bespoke joinery windows, doors, fixed seating and a specially made glass hand rail.

All parties involved, including the insurance company, had expressed the urgency in getting the nightclub back open as soon as possible. Buildzone had a team working on the project 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and instances of having over 60 people working on site at a time.
