North West construction firms are leading the way in UK industry recovery
New data now puts North West construction ahead of other areas of the UK. The region’s building firms display promising growth, marked by many successful contract wins.
A report issued by industry experts, Glenigan, commented on UK construction activity. Underlying project starts shows a consistent decline, yet a slowdown in the rate of decline is indicating improvement. This change now predicts a more favourable outlook towards the end of 2021 for the sector.
The recent report highlighted the region showing the most promise this year. England’s North West holds the highest value for underlying project starts in the UK. The region’s figures show an increase of around 58 per cent on the same time last year, and a 13 per cent hike on 2019.
A promising upward trend…
In Glenigan’s latest construction index edition, the area’s other achievements were also noted. The North West was the only UK region to experience recent growth. It was also the best performer when pitted against its own figures for 2020.
Economic Analyst for Glenigan, Rhys Gadsby, commented on the figures. He said that construction firms in the North West bucked the trend of consistent decline. Showing promise, he added that the region was the only UK area to experience growth in the past three months. In his expert opinion, this puts it in a strong position to weather storms such as the UK’s decline in project starts.
The report also confirmed that the North West showed significant increases for project starts in a wide range of sectors. These included housing, hotel and leisure, health, and retail.
